The Ultimate Moving Day Checklist

Moving day runs smoother when it's planned in advance, not improvised on the spot. Here's the checklist our crews wish every customer had taped to the fridge.

One Week Before

• Confirm your date, time window, and deposit with your moving company.
• Start using up perishable food — you don't want to move a full freezer.
• Set aside a "first night" box: toiletries, chargers, a change of clothes, basic tools.
• Label boxes by room, not by contents — it speeds up unloading dramatically.
• If your building requires a parking or elevator reservation, book it now.

The Night Before

• Do a final walkthrough — closets, cabinets above the fridge, the garage, the shed.
• Disconnect and unplug appliances so they've cooled or drained before moving.
• Charge your phone fully — you'll be using it as a walkie-talkie all day.
• Clear a path from the front door to the street for the truck and dollies.

Morning Of

• Be present (or have someone present) when the truck arrives — most movers require a signature before labor time starts.
• Point out anything fragile, oversized, or requiring special handling before loading begins.
• Do a final sweep of every room after loading, before the crew leaves.

At the New Place

• Walk the crew through where each labeled room goes before unloading starts.
• Keep the "first night" box within reach — you'll want it before you want to unpack anything else.
• Do a final walkthrough of the truck bed before it drives off, to confirm nothing was missed.
